  • Just in time for the commercial day of love, Velocity has revealed its Valentine’s Day edition, an all-pink 1973 Ford Bronco with a few key touches under the hood.
  • Sporting a 5.0-liter Coyote V8, a proper 2.5-inch lift kit, and Wilwood brakes, the mechanical bits are almost as impressive as the interior and exterior restoration.
  • Velocity Modern Classics is well known for going above and beyond when it comes to restoration and renovation, but is it worth the hundreds of thousands of dollars?

The so-called day of love we now know as Valentine’s Day dates all the way back to the ancient Roman Empire, with a history darker than the modern waves of pink and purple tell. Luckily, here at Autoweek, we are more focused on automotive history than distinguishing between BCE and CE.

As a result, we’re here to show off what could be the ideal Valentine’s Day ride. Built by Velocity, a restomod builder we’ve previously featured for its pickup builds, this 1973 Ford Bronco is far from original. Before we dive in, it’s worth asking yourself just how important your Valentine is to you, seeing as this Classic Ford Bronco costs $268,900.

For your nearly $300,000, popping the hood is where you start to see the money unfold, as the Bronco has been fitted with a third-generation 5.0-liter Coyote V8. Save for custom headers and a proprietary serpentine belt system, the engine remains relatively stock, meaning the engine-swapped Bronco is putting down around 460 hp and 420 lb-ft of torque.

Containing that much power with 1970s suspension technology would be a questionable proposition. However, Velocity’s main goal in modifying the Bronco was to create a contemporary handling feel. With new front and rear axles, a 2.5-inch suspension lift, and four-wheel Wilwood hydro-boosted brakes, the Velocity Bronco is properly equipped.

Underneath this modern drivetrain technology, the Velocity Bronco sports 17-inch steel wheels with 285mm section tires. Paired with the frosted pink Glasurit paint, Velocity has also included a four-point, powder-coated roll cage, just in case someone decides to get too rowdy in their Bronco. Other exterior features include LED headlights and all-new weather seals.

Inside the Velocity Bronco, its astronomical price tag begins to make a little more sense. The interior is completely restored and renovated, even down to the climate control switches and gauge cluster. High-back front seats, a RetroSound digital head unit, a Focal Audio four-speaker sound system, and even a tilting steering column make the Bronco all-accessible.

Believe it or not (and you should believe it at $268,000), it even has air conditioning and power windows! If you’re eyeing this pretty Bronco with skeptical eyes, we don’t blame you. A resto-modded Bronco has no need to be this extreme, and yet we’d be eager to get behind the wheel of this generationally blended model.

In the name of Valentine’s Day, however, it’s hard to imagine rolling around a (preferably sunny) city with your beau in anything else as apropos. Maybe it’s too tongue-in-cheek for some, but at least you can do your best to recreate the iconic gas-guzzling scene in Zoolander.
